Hey friends! This week, I want to share tips to help out your allergy dogs! I know it can be difficult and sad to watch your poor itchy dog. My dog Ernie, has severe seasonal allergies around this time of the year. So, let’s talk about some products that have worked for him!

Diet

Ernie eats Zignature Trout & Salmon, Zignature is made in Minnesota. All their formulas are potato, grain, and chicken-free with multiple, rotational proteins. We went on a year-long hunt to find the perfect food to help with his allergies. Zignature was the winner! No more soft stools and digestion problems. We’ve also used Ultra Oil on top of his food, which is an all natural skin and coat supplement with Omega 3, 6, and 9 oils and is also gluten, soy, and diary free.

Treats/Chews

We try to give him only grain-free treats. This can be hard with him being a sassy Beagle. I would recommend the Smart Cookie Bakery! They have a Trout & Apple soft treat and a Salmon, Skin & Coat with omega oils. They are both wheat, corn, and soy free.

Just because your dog has allergies, they shouldn’t miss out on tasty treats! Redbarn Bully Slices are a natural chew that can help dental hygiene and joint support. In our last blog, we discussed how Collagen Chews are another great digestible treat. Lastly we have the Parsley & Peppermint chews. These leave their breath smelling minty fresh. Ernie loves these!

Skin Care

Having floppy ears can be a challenge, especially during allergy season. We like to use Skout’s Honor’s Probiotic Ear Cleaner. This cleaner is aloe vera based, non-medicated, alcohol and fragrance-free. For sure the best ear cleaner that I have used! Skout’s Honor also has a new Probiotic Itch Spray with oatmeal. We’ve had lots of customers try it. I personally have not used it yet, but I can’t wait to try it!

I have used the Kin & Kind Healing Clay Itchy Dog Shampoo. This shampoo is natural. organic, and sulfate free! With coconut oil, olive oil, and a citrus fragrance. I also recommend:

  • Kin & Kind Medicated Itchy Dog Shampoo
  • Tropiclean Medicated Itch Relief
  • Zymox Itch Relief

We always rotate through his shampoos so his skin doesn’t get used to them.

All of these products are ones that my family and I have found that help him feel better throughout the season. Please keep in mind that every dog is different, and reacts in different ways. I do hope that some of these products could help out your itchy friends as well! Here are some links for more information on these products.
