Hey Friends! This week we are going to talk about getting your horse(s) through a change of season. I have two horses of my own. Bullet goes through change of season pretty well. Amtal usually needs a little TLC. Let’s talk about what I do to help my guy out!
Amtal is a 17-year old Arabian gelding. Toward the end of summer and most of the fall, his allergies get pretty rough. He’ll get watery eyes at times, his glands behind his jawline will swell and if it gets really bad, he’ll cough. At times he even becomes lethargic. I’ve tried using Benadryl and it will take the edge off but doesn’t work that well. I tried and had great success with the Cavalor Bronchix Liquid supplement. Bronchix Liquid is a natural supplement that uses a blend of plant extracts and oils including eucalyptus, lemon, oregano, and rosemary. It helps to improve breathing and support the upper respiratory tract due to coughing. It also helps restore appetite as well as liver and lung function. I have this to Amtal twice a day for 5 days and saw improvement within the first day and a half. He was perkier, breathing clearer, and our ride was a lot more enjoyable!
While a am dealing with his allergies, I also need to keep in mind that winter is right around the corner. Winter has been tough on him in the past, so I try my best to make sure he is in good weight. I keep an eye on him all year round, but I start to a closer eye on him at the end of August-early September. I feed him Cavalor Strucomix Senior during this time. Strucomix is formulated with puffed grains for easy digestion. The puffed grains are also beneficial to him because he is aging, and his teeth aren’t in the greatest shape anymore. This formula is also higher in calories, which he will need during those cold Wisconsin days.
Throughout the winter I also like to feed a vitamin-mineral supplement. Right now I am using Cavalor Nutri Plus. which is a concentrated supplement intended for additional nutritional support for overall health, as well as a ration balancer. It also improves natural resistance to environmental stresses. I have used Equi-Shine and Source Nuggets, but I like to rotate between a few different products so my horses get a variety.
I have gone through many trials and errors throughout the years with my two trying to find what works the best. Please keep in mind that every horse and situation is different. Hopefully, these products can help your horse(s)!
